First off we want to take a minute to formally thank everyone for helping us. We are amazed at the outpouring of support with Twitter updates, blog and forum posts and general spreading of the word. Although Gracie’s mom came thisclose to deleting the blog and giving up due to scam screamers the support she got kept her going. A special thanks to Ron Davies and Cori Padgett for their unfailing time and generous support.

You may have (or not :) wondered what was going on with Gracie. It has been a whirlwind few days, but thankfully Gracie is OK.

Saturday night she started to get very ill. She had been taking antibiotics and they actually appeared to be working however late Saturday her temperature spiked and she was complaining of pain. A trip to the ER and they admitted her saying the appendix was going to have to come out. She went in Monday morning for surgery, came through like a champ and is much better.

We raised just over $400 which is wonderful! It will be a great help to Gracie’s Mom, who will need to use the funds to live while she is off work caring for Gracie. As an independent contractor she only gets paid when she works and doesn’t have sick days to use, so the money raised was absolutely crucial given no income is occurring right now.

She has been urged by her friends to continue raising money. The mounting medical bills are going to be a big problem when they start to roll in… It’s very indicative of this economy, the life they live, paycheck to paycheck, no room for even a penny to pay over their budget.

Gracie’s mom would like to offer some formal packages to keep this going. They can be customized to your needs but an idea will be:

$100 – Package of 10 articles, 300 words, fully original and SEO’d

$200 – Package of 22 articles, 300 words, fully original and SEO’d

And so on…

Also offered is Twitter updates, theme of your choice for your account, $10- $15 per hour depending on content.

Plus editing and SEO services custom to your needs. Prices subject to content.

Please contact us at savinggracie@gmail.com for more details and thank you again for everything you’ve done. We couldn’t have come this far without you!

Love,
C

Editor’s note: This blog was created for a friend of mine. The message below comes from Gracie’s Mom.

If you’re a parent you know the terror you feel when you imagine your child becoming sick. Even more so you worry that you somehow won’t be able to get them the care they need. As a single parent who doesn’t receive child support, fears like this can be oppressive for me.

I came face-to-face with my nightmare this week. My child, Gracie, had been having lots of unexplainable pain in her side. For weeks she has been complaining of a “tummy ache”. A few days ago she visibly winced in pain, holding her side. When I felt her head, it was hot with fever. She said she felt nauseous. I realized this wasn’t typical childhood tummy stuff and immediately called her doctor.

After an abdominal exam, a couple tests and ultrasound he concluded that her appendix is affected and that the symptoms have been long enough in duration and severity to warrant removing it. He worries that it may burst – which could be deadly.

I have a steady job. I have good insurance. In my initial reaction I felt as though we would be OK, that we would be covered.

I was wrong.

While we are covered for the procedure, it isn’t 100% coverage, which means that the hospital/doctor will not even schedule the surgery unless you’re able to pay your portion up front. In full. To the tune of $3000. It won’t be considered an emergency (and not have to pay up front) until it bursts – a risk I’m not going to take. Even after explaining the situation to the hospital, my single parenthood, my always-empty bank account, they were little help. I suspect our story is one they hear every day. Unsympathetic at best they suggested contacting family members or getting a bank loan, neither of which is a possibility for me in this short amount of time. Two downsizes in as many years has seen my credit cards maxed and my credit shot. My story is, sadly, common in this day and age. People complain about Obama’s push for healthcare. We live the type of situation that warrants it.

In talking with some friends and doing some soul searching I realize that I need to reach out for help. My pride forced me to exhaust all avenues, none of which turned up any immediate monetary help. Bank has denied, Care Credit has denied, the hospital won’t accept payments.

I won’t accept charity – however I will offer something in return for a small donation, if you’re able. If I can find 1000 people to donate $3, or even 3000 people to donate $1, it will get us to our goal and get Gracie out of harm’s way. I will post a Paypal link and the minute we hit the goal (after Paypal fees) it will be removed.

Time is, obviously, of the essence.

I’m a writer, so I’m offering free ghost writing of one article, blog post, ad copy, whatever you need, up to 450 words in exchange for a donation. I also do editing & SEO, so if you need something edited or SEO’d I’m your gal. But, let’s keep it within reason… I won’t be able to write (for free, at least) your novel or anything. :) I am also a social media expert, so I will critique your bio, specifying 5 improvement points, for example. Anything you need!

If you donate, specify in your donation details what you need:

  • Ghost writing
  • SEO
  • Editing
  • Social media consult

I’m keeping this anonymous. My daughter deserves privacy and discretion, which is why this is being posted under a friend’s blog/Paypal account, however if you ask privately I will answer any questions you may have or give more details. You can contact us at savinggracie7@gmail.com.

Please click on the Paypal donate button if you’re able to help, or forward it to others. In the Paypal details please list what type of service you’d like to receive and I’ll contact you for more details.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and for hearing our story.
